Conference Schedule

A detailed schedule of conference events, including pre-conference activities, will be sent to you closer to the conference dates in mid-May once all the logistics have been finalized. This will include information regarding the specific day, time, and session of your presentation. If you have not received an e-mail with submission information by then, please contact apppn2025@ust.hk with your name and the title of your submission. Please note that individual requests for specific presentation dates and/or times cannot be addressed due to the very large number of participants and other factors that the committee must consider when scheduling the overall program.

The preliminary program will be posted online, and updates will be provided as the program develops on the AP-PPN website at www.asiapacificppn.org/ , however, for the purposes of planning your trip, please make note of the following:

  • Preregistration on arrival day will open at 2pm on May 21. We will host a series of workshops and events on this day between 2pm and 6pm.

  • The conference will begin promptly on May 22 at 9am (registration opens at 8:30am) and is scheduled to finish with the AP-PPN business meeting (open to all) at 6:30pm on May 23rd.

  • HKUST is located in Clearwater Bay, New Territories, which is about an hour’s drive to the Hong Kong International Airport.

We recommend that you arrange your flights to arrive in Hong Kong in the morning of May 21 and depart after 10pm on May 23 or on May 24.

You will be requested to arrive at your designated session at least 10 minutes in advance to allow for setup and any unforeseen adjustments. We recommend that you bring a thumb drive containing your presentation slides to ensure smooth and efficient access to your materials. Additionally, please ensure that your slides are compatible with standard presentation software to avoid any technical difficulties. Upon your arrival, you will upload your presentation slides to the computer with the assistance of our student helpers to facilitate time-efficient transitions between presenters. The session will be managed by a session chair, who will oversee the schedule, introduce presenters, moderate the discussion, and ensure the session runs smoothly and on time. Your oral presentation should be no longer than 7 minutes, providing a concise and impactful overview of your research. Please note that session chairs may not present their papers in the sessions they are chairing. Following your presentation, there will be one or two paper discussants who will initiate the discussion and engage the audience for the remaining time.

Registration for the conference will be open from mid-February to the end of April on this page.

Presenting authors must register for the conference and complete payment of fees by April 18, 2025. Failure to do so will result in the removal of your presentation from the program. Should you have any extenuating circumstances necessitating a delay in payment, please reach out to the conference organizers at apppn2025@ust.hk to make alternative arrangements no later than April 11.

To enhance collaboration and the exchange of ideas, and to foster a vibrant network of scholars and practitioners dedicated to advancing public policy research and practice, we are pleased to announce that, thanks to the generous funding from the AUA, registration fees will be waived for all participants affiliated with AUA member universities. This includes those currently studying at or working for AUA member institutions. Participants must follow the same deadlines and procedures for registration. The registration form will prompt you to specify if a fee-waiver applies to you.

Please note that the registration fee waiver does not apply to any paper co-authors who are not affiliated with AUA member universities, even if other authors are.

Corresponding authors will be asked to submit the final papers by May 3, 2025. The Conference will not publish its proceedings, and you are free to submit your research to be considered for publication in the future.

Additionally, we would like to highlight that Prof. Kira Matus and Prof. Masaru Yarime from HKUST and the AP-PPN Steering Committee are collaborating with Prof. Lan Xue and Prof. Jie Tang at Tsinghua University to organize a Special Issue on AI Ethics, Governance, and Risk Management. Research contributions related to AI's role in addressing sustainability challenges will be particularly welcome to apply for publication, and some conference presentations may be invited for submission to this special issue. The editors of this special issue will be present at the conference to provide guidance and advice and to answer questions.
